It feels both trite and necessary to write a “how to avoid getting sick this winter” post, so please bear with me while I share these five ways to reduce infection and get through our 2023-24 Cold, Flu, and COVID season.

I've been including taking a zinc supplement 2x/day for years -- long before the covid pandemic began, for an entirely different reason. To protect myself and others as my dentist does, per ADA recommendation, I use a gentle hydrogen peroxide mouthwash. I added a gentle hydrogen peroxide nasal spray as well. I think that's probably why I didn't get flu last year when I was very likely exposed.
Thank you for the continued vigilance. My family does all it can to reduce risk, so far it's working. Just took some getting used to our new norm (still masking, social distancing every where).
On the cold vs hot food and virus contamination, I tried nuking my healthy smoothie and it's not awful but if cold ingredients were already contaminated, does that do any good?

Your smoothie is probably fine as long as all ingredients were washed or frozen before going in!
