On June 15th of 2023 the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) part of the US FDA met and discussed vaccine recommendations for the 2023 Fall booster to be produced by Novavax, Moderna, and Pfizer.
This is a great summary on the current state of COVID-19. I agree that future waves are unlikely to be as crippling to the healthcare system acutely, but I am concerned about the long term healthcare implications due to Long COVID
LIL, Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! This made me so happy to still get.
I don’t think there was a day of uncertainty where I didn’t flip to see what you were saying. I appreciate you. It made me cry when I knew you would be leaving. It made me cry when I just got this email. To say you held my hand through this pandemic is not enough. Please know so many were/are so grateful for you. I hope you are well & safe. -coachg_1
This is reassuring! Still very concerned about LC and long term damage of it all. Any updates or hope on universal variant vaccines? Or better therapeutics to reduce the impact on the body? I’m still wearing my mask inside and out (caught Covid LY outside!) and social distancing but can definitely feel it getting to my mental health as I’m the only one I know still taking precautions :(
Thank you excellent information! Well written! I will share this widely.
It would interesting to see an up to date image illustrating how much more transmissible the major variants have been compared to the original Wuhan COVID. In a past year I saw this illustrated in steps representing the major variants.
Something I have wondered about since I got COVID June 2022 while wearing a good N95 which leaked ever so slightly around the nose (I suspect low tear troughs cause me woes with poor fit in that area):
When wearing N95s and elastomerics I tend to mouth breathe. The one time I had COVID (likely BA.2 since it was dominant at the time) by far my most intense symptoms were gastrointestinal. I have long wondered if the route of entry (via nose, mouth or eyes) is in any way a predictor/influence of which symptoms one gets predominantly. Would COVID reproduce significantly more in different parts of the body depending on the route of entry? I was fully vaccinated at the time but 5.5 months post my last dose. Also would route of entry in any way predict where COVID remains in the body long term? Presumably I got a low viral load because nothing I did on the day I was infected was high risk. Everything was in fact lower risk, and I was being COVID cautious except a fast as humanly possible dash in to use the bathroom (Unmasked family member present so didn’t even close the bathroom door out of concern for COVID. Private house).
Now have hyper thyroid. Had it 16 years ago with no problem since. My doctor was surprised. Yeah doc, COVID can affect the thyroid. He had COVID right when I did. He did not respond to my “What were you wearing?” question (referring to mask lol).
